Story & Atmosphere
Nestled in the heart of Coyoacán, Merendero Las Lupitas offers a genuine taste of traditional northern Mexican cuisine in a charming colonial-style setting. Established in 1959, this cozy spot remains a favorite for locals and visitors alike looking for a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy an authentic meal without breaking the bank.
The ambience alone invites you to unwind, whether you’re meeting family, friends, or enjoying a quiet date. The warm, inviting décor complements the unpretentious yet flavorful dishes served here. From the hearty enchiladas with mole to the perfectly grilled chicken a la plancha, the menu showcases staples that honor Mexico’s rich culinary heritage. While not every dish hits perfection—some, like the quesadillas de huitlacoche, may fall short—the overall experience remains satisfying.
One cannot miss the delight of their traditional breakfast offerings, highlighted by the cinnamon atole, a sweet, warm milky drink that feels like a comforting embrace on a cool morning. The freshness and homemade quality of their salsas, especially the vibrant salsa verde, add depth and authenticity to each bite. Though service can sometimes be a bit slow, the genuine friendliness of the staff, particularly Mar, creates a welcoming environment that feels like home.
Open late into the night, Merendero Las Lupitas stands out as a go-to spot for casual dining that balances tradition, flavor, and affordability. Its location in Jardín Sta Catarina situates it conveniently for those exploring the cultural richness of Coyoacán. Whether you seek a hearty lunch, a cozy dinner, or a quiet place to savor rich Mexican flavors, this eatery remains a meaningful staple in Mexico City’s vibrant food scene.
“ I loved the entire place and the way it was done. Since we have now tried Mexican food all over the city I'm going to say that the food here was not bad Wasn't excellent but it was not bad. But the place is well located and has a great ambience. If you want a quiet place to relax with your family or a date it's a good idea to get here. It's not too expensive too. ”
“ Great place.to eat well and relax with family or friends. Highly recommended. ”
“ Went here with a party of 3. Would recommend the enchiladas with mole and the chicken a la plancha, but not the quesadillas de huitlacoche, which was dry & not up to par. ”
